A Farewell to Arms
1932 Starring Gary Cooper, Helen Hayes, Adolphe Menjou, Mary Phillips, Jack LaRue Unrated 82 Minutes
A tale of the love between ambulance driver Lt. Henry and Nurse Catherine Barkley during World War I. The action takes place in Italy and the two fall in love during the war and will stop at nothing to be together. The film also analyses Lt. Henry's feelings on war and the purpose of fighting.
Rating:4/10 Even though Ernest Hemingway is known as a great American author, his works don't always translate well on film. This was very boring. Iwas on the verge of falling asleep as I was watching this. The acting wasn't so bad, but the material wasn't the greatest. The really took out the anti war part of the story and just kept with the romance, which I just couldn't seem to get into. I rerally did enjoy the acting of Adolphe Menjou. There were two endings made for this movie, one happy and one sad. I got to see the sad ending, which I kind of liked. But this movie kept drawing on and on and just felt like it was too long even for eighty minutes.
