I haven't watch to much of Takashi Miike for him to make an impression on me like he has with other people. The only other piece of work of his that I've ever seen was Imprint and I couldn't stand it. I thought it was a horrible piece of garbage and wasn't too sure if I ever wanted to see some of his other work, even though I was told that some of it was quite good. Well, I decided to give his J-Horror version of One Missed Call a chance and I found myself not too disappointed. Sure, at times it was slow and boring. And as a viewer you had to put a lot of thought into the ending, because the ending was very confusing, but this was as interesting a mystery as it was a horror movie. It didn't have the gore that Miike was famous for, but he was compelling at times. There were some very creepy scenes in this as well. Such as the ghost of the little girl at the television station as people are trying to save the victim while the attempt at taking the life of the victim. That was creepy seeing the little girl crawling on the walls. Also, seeing the little girl in the mirror after she possessed someone as she was trying to kill someone. Those scenes were kind of creepy to me and I don't find myself getting creeped out that much anymore. I also have this feeling that Miike was also trying to poke a little fun at the genre, becasue at times, there were scenes that feltr really cheesy and almost laughable. But this is a movie in which you really have to pay attention to detail. It isn't one of those which you can be doing something else at the time while you are watching this, or you will become totally lost. Still, I'm not a real big fan of the J-Horror movies, but I still find them to be interesting and this one is no exception. Just try to pay attention or otheriwse you really have wasted your time.
