A man is picked up by a fishing boat, bullet-riddled and without memory, then races to elude assassins and recover from amnesia.
Rating:7/10 Matt Damon as an action star? Who would've thought. Hey, does anyone remember his buddy Ben Affleck in Reindeer Games. Well, The Bourne Identity was much much better than that. I'm not a big fan of the action genre in general, so I'm still suprised to think that I would actually like it. But what this has over most action movies, is that this is very smart. A pretty intelligent story. Most action movies are so run of the mill, that there is no suprise to them anymore. Matt Damon does a pretty good job as the main character. He doesn't come across as some super hero, or someone who needs the latest cartoonish technology. The fight scenes are very fast and very entertaining. Franka Potente also did a pretty good job as Marie. The rest of the cast did pretty well too. It was kind of different seeing Julia Stiles and Clive Owen is small roles in a movie like this, but they both came off well. What kind of gets me a little bit, is that American filmmakers like to make the American government the bad guy all the time. I'm not a big fan of the government, but it is not as evil as they want to portray. With that being said, this is a pretty original movie for an action movie and I wasn't too disappointed, that's for sure.
