An overstressed suburbanite and his paramilitaric neighbor struggle to prove their paranoid theory that the new family in town is a front for a cannibalistic cult.
Rating:9/10 This is a movie that isn't so much about plot, it is more about characterization. Tom Hanks, Rick Ducommun, Bruce Dern and Corey Feldman have such good chemistry between their characters, it is easy to believe that they would all be neighbors. Their characters are very wacky in subtle ways, that you could just point out to them and realize that the person portrayed is someone from your own neighborhood. This is one of the better dark comedies out there. Usually dark comedies have some sort of idiotic and rather tasteless scenes, but not the Burbs. Once again I will say it. The comedy is in the characters. The other thing that is noticeable about the Burbs, is that it is suspenseful as well as funny. The ending was well worth it. Just when I thought it was going to end, something happens and the story keeps going on. This movie at times kind of reminded me of an 80's horror film to an extent. I should say it had the fell of an 80's horror movie. This is quite a bizarre movie, with a bizarre ending, but it is very fun to watch, so go ahead and find it and enjoy the hell out of this movie.
