Rating:8/10 When I picked up Dark Water, what I thought I was getting was a scary ghost story. Watching the trailers for it and seeing how it was advertised, that is what many people though they were getting watching Dark Water. As a matter of fact this is another Japanese remake, so I was trying to avoid this one. Well I watched it, and found myself pleasantly suprised. This really wasn't a horror movie, though it had supernatural elements placed in it. One thing this is not, compared to other Japanese remakes, is boring. It takes some time establishing and developing the characters and the relationships of the characters. This film strikes alot of the right cords and there are several touchingly sad moments. Jennifer Connelly shows that she is more than capable of being the lead in a movie. Ariel Gade was amazing. I ususally don't care much for kids in movies, because they are more annoying than anything. They don't seem to have a grasp fo the material or how they should really act. Some over act, some under act. I'm sure someone is telling me to lighten up a little, but the way actors get paid and for what we pay for tickets at the theater, they should do at least a competent job. I think in the future, people are going to be saying, "Dakota who?" Gade is that good. The film is slow paced and it really built up the tension and the mystery surrounding the disappearance of a little girl. Go see this movie with open eyes and no expectations and you will love this movie.
