Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world.
Rating:7/10 Wow! Darren Aronofsky really blew me out of the water watching this as far as visual effects go. The visual effects really made this movie flow like poetry. That is exactly what this movie reminded me of, poetry. What makes this even more amazing, is that Aronofsky wanted little to no CGI used in this movie. Most of the effects used in this movie is used by microphotography of chemical reactions in tiny petri dishes. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz also suprised me with their acting abilities. I think with anyone else, the acting would have been over the top, but Jackman and Weisz played their roles to perfection. This is a movie I'm not sure a lot of people wil get. It is kind of a hard one and a confusing one to watch, storywise. You really can't just get up, go to the bathroom or get a soda, without stopping this, or you could easily get lost. It is a discussion piece and there could be many different takes to it. My thought was that this was about one man's mortality. The Fountain is unlike anything you will ever see though as there is nothing it can be compared to. I wasn't a fan of Pi or Requiem of a Dream but if Darren Aronofsky can keep making movies that will make a person think and use their imagination, I can see him being an elite director for years to come.
