In 1933 New York, an overly ambitious movie producer coerces his cast and hired ship crew to travel to mysterious Skull Island, where they encounter Kong, a giant ape who is immediately smitten with leading lady Ann Darrow.
Rating:7/10 There are three things that stand out while I was watching King Kong. Number one was how amazing the special effects were. The special effects just blew me away. I mean, as realistic lookingas it was, it actually added another whole dimension of intensity to the story. Number two was the beautiful scenery. Maybe it was the special effects combined with the setting, but it really caught my eye. Number three was how unnecasarily long this movie was. As soon as the jungle sequences were over and everything was back in New York, I just lost focua watching this movie. If it would have ended where Naomi Watts was crying from Kong, to me that would have been good enough. But when you are doing a remake, you should try to keep as faithful as you can, so I can understand the New York scenes. This was just way too long of a movie and should have been cut to just over two hours. The acting was pretty good. I was suprised with Jack Black and Naomi Watts. I was always wondering how Jack Black would fare in a movle like this. As far as Naomi Watts goes, to me, she is a very bland actress. I have never liked a movie she was in, but she was alright in this. There were several flaws with this movie though. With the way Kong was shaking Ann Darrow, she would have been killed. But she was not injured. She suffered no ill effects. Sorry, not good. Over one hour into the movie and no Kong. What the hell is that all about? The next hour was amazing though. Those action scenes could just about rival anything that Peter Jackson did in the Lord of the Ring trilogy. There were just so many flaws to choose from. Such as the unresolved backstory to all the second tier characters to the way Jimmy was hadling the machine gun shooting off the insects that were crawling all over Adrien Brody. I don't think this is worht the time to watch though. I did give this a high ranking, but to sit three hours through this might be a bit too much. I really hope there is no director's cut to this, unlike the way Peter Jackson released director's cuts of the Lord of the Ring Trilogies.
