Rating:9/10 When you look back at Eddie Murphy's career, he has made some great movies and he has also made some duds. His work on Saturday Night Live is always must see. But when you associate a movie with Eddie Murphy, one of the top movies he has ever made was Beverly Hills Cop. Originally, the lead was supposed to be Sylvester Stallone or Mickey Rourke. With Stallone, this would have been another typical action movie. I believe the same thing with Mickey Rourke, even though he is a better actor than Stallone. But when you bring in a comedian who can do the action sequences required, you have a whole new movie than what the previous actors mentioned could bring. Eddie Murphy brings a lot of wit and charm to the characters that others couldn't have. It was very fresh at that time as well. As a whole, the cast and the director for this movie works so well it is like a well oiled machine. Hitting all the right marks and spots, even in a predictable movie such as this, it was made fun to watch. The scene where Eddie Murphy is putting bananas in the tail pipe of Ashton's and Rienhold's car was hilarious. Ashton and Reinhold were great straight characters for Murphy to play off, even though there were times when Reinhold was allowed to shine a bit as a comedic character. For some hard core action fans, this is not a mindless action movie. There are parts where their was some excellent dramatic acting as well. That reminds me. Watch for a small role that Damon Wayans plays. I almost missed it. Even though this movie is a little bit dated, it is still quite an entertaining movie and definitive movie of the eighties. Check it out. You will be laughing.
