David and Goliath
1960 Starring Orson Welles, Ivaca Pajer, Hilton Edwards, Massimo Serato, Kronos Unrated 95 Minutes
The story of the film is adapted from the Old Testament: The Philistines declare war on the Israelites and wrench the Arch of the Allience from them. Saul, the king of Israel, listens meanwhile to the words of the prophets who tell him that the new king will be a young shepard called David. But still David has to fight the enemy in form of their mighty giant Goliath.
Rating:6/10 This wasn't a bad take on the classic story of David and Goliath. This is a story that everyone is familiar with. It also has what might have happened on the side of the Philistines as they were getting ready to prepare for war and the negotiations they had to do to get Goliath. The movie is not all that accurate taken from the Bible. Some of the scenes were rather silly and looked as if they could have come from a Saturday matinee type serial movie. Orson Welles though in his short appearances in this film, really gives it some credibility as he seems very comfortable in the role of King Saul. He plays King Saul quite well showing that he is in a downward spiral. Kronos as Goliath would have been cooler if he wasn't just regullated to grunts and groans and some laughter. This movie is still passable though and at times I found myself being entertained by it.
