Bug is the kind of movie that isn't just for anyone. But it does bring a unique and intense character study. It is also quite a disturbing movie as well. Self mutilation always gets me kind of squeamish. I can handle slashers, but when it is self mutilation, yuck. You can also tell that this was based on a play by the long monologues and the one setting. What this isn't is a horror movie. Just because is was done by William Friedkin doesn't mean that he should be pigeonholed. Now with that being said, I repeat, this is a disturbing movie. The ending was weird and intense. But not a horror movie. This was marketed wrong, as that is what led to confusion by movie goers thinking they were going to get something like The Exorcist. This was about drug induced paranoia. Plaion and simple. The acting was pretty good as there were only five characters and Ashley Judd and Micheal Shannon(who also starred in the theater version as well), really carried this film well. Just remember what you are watching and this might be your cup of tea. But like I said before, this is not for everyone.
