I remember being "forced" to watch this movie for my Mass Media class with Mrs. Stone for high school. Back then, I didn't care for the classics. I didn't want to watch those kinds of movies. But I was glad I did watch this. I really enjoyed this movie back then and I still enjoy it to this day. Even though it isn't politically correct, that could be said for a lot of movies, including some of the modern "classics" today. But with that being said, this is an excellent movie. It is a very light hearted buddy war movie. And that isn't really a good description of it. It really had a bit of everything to it. It had comedy, action, a touch of romance and quite a dramatic piece at the end. It was really good seeing a young Cary Grant as well. Watching him in this and in Arsenic and Old Lace(another great dark comedy), really showed he had great comedic timing with any co star that he had. His other two costars, Victor McLaglen, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., were excellent in their roles as well. Sam Jaffe was another good choice as the title character Gunga Din. If you paid attention, you would hear that the villians in this were the Thuggee cult. Remember them in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. These guys were brutal villians and made it very easy to dislike them. But great characters and the chemistry they had together with a great story, amkes this a very fun movie to watch and well worth the time to watch it.
