In turn-of-the-century Vienna, a magician uses his abilities to secure the love of a woman far above his social standing.
Rating:7/10 Sometimes movies with twists get to be overdone and annoying. Where it feels like it makes no sense, or in the case of The Village, figuring it out within the first ten minutes of the film. But every know and then, something like The Illusionist comes along. The Illusionist is almiost like a magic show, where you have an opening to capture the audiences attention. Tricks in the middle of the show to keep the attention of the audience, while keeping the pace of the show brisk, and a grand finale that blows you out of the water. Edward Norton and Paul Giammatti were excellent as usual. Ever since I watched Private Parts, Paul Giammatti has really shown his acting shops and has done an excellent job in every movie I've seen him in. I've never been a big fan of Jessica Biel, but her game was elevated and put out a very convincing performance. I know the star crossed love story made this movie a little cheesier than it should have been and the fact that this movie is highly predictable, but it was still a sight to behold with the costumes and the scenery. I loved the ending and I really loved how Giammatti really put everything together. This is good entertainment for your dollar as this movie has some very good tricks up its sleeve to keep this movie going well.
