Looking over Vin Diesel's short career as an actor, he already has a very good resume as far as what he has done. But the first two Hollywood movies that put him on the map were Saving Private Ryan and Pitch Black. We were introduced to Diesel in Saving Private Ryan and he was likable in that movie, but could he carry a film on his own. With Pitch Black, he showed that he could carry a film on his own and had several excellent movies after this most notable, The Fast and the Furious. Even though this was Diesel's movie, the rest of the cast was pretty good in support. I'm a huge fan of Keith David as that guy can do just about any role. Radha Mitchell was suitable as Fry and Cole Hauser brings a great sense of meanness and some responsibility. But this is Diesel's movie. And yes, I'm showing a lot of man love for Diesel as John Madden does for Brett Favre, but he really pulled off a role in which he was supposed to be creepy, dangerous and viscious. He doesn't have that "heart of gold" as we are used to seeing and I think that really draws a magnetic performance from Diesel. The special effects were pretty decent for this movie as well. But here is a little trivia for everyone regarding this movie. We all know that there was going to be a sequel planned for this movie, but it wasn't going to involve Vin Diesel. It was gonna involve Captain Fry, but once the studio was seeing how good Diesel was, they figured he would be a better money maker than Radha Mitchell. What really makes Pitch Black is the cast. The story is nothing new. A horror/scifi movie. But with the excellent characters and actors involved which made it fun to watch. If you haven't seen this yet, give it a chance. It surprised a lot of people by how good it was and you won't be a bit disappointed.
