A down-on-his luck father, whose insurance won't cover his son's heart transplant, takes the hospital's emergency room hostage until the doctors agree to perform the operation.
Rating:7/10 What can be said about Denzel Washington that hasn't been already said? Nothing, so I'm going to repeat myself and many others. This guy is an excellent actor, period. He was so believable as a down on his luck father. I don't know how anyone could not feel sorry for him. Kimberly Elise, portraying his wife, was just as awesome and believable. Most of the cast was pretty good. And what a cast it was. You have Anne Heche, James Wood, Robert Duvall, Ray Liotta, Eddie Griffin(somewhat out of place) and Shawn Hatosy(excellent as the rich woman beater). Boy, did Hatosy take a shot in the family jewels or what. The story was something that most people could relate to and that is bills and the health care system. The movie was very touching and pretty realistic. It was also thought provoking even though at times, some of the preaching feels like it is shoved down our throats. I did learn some things though, and it does have a bit of an educational message as well. The somewhat happy resolution was predictable, but how could it not be? It did kind of seem to be the right way to end the movie. Not a bad movie, just too much preaching, but heartwrenching because of Washington's and Elise's Acting ability.
