Frontier(s) was originally supposed to be part of the After Dark Horrorfest lineup. You know, the eight films to die for. That was the tag line used for these movies. Using that tag line, Lionsgate and After Dark said that these eight movies were the ones that the studios did not want released on the big screen because they were too scary. Well, Frontier(s) was taken off because it was considered too much. So really this is false advertising. When I watch this movies from After Dark, I am expecting something from this claim they have made. Well, this movie had a one week limited release at the theaters before it hit the DVD shelves and that is a shame, because this was quite a horror movie that did live up to the claims that Lionsgate and After Dark made. Now, this is not an original movie by any stretch. If you have seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel, Turistas or the Saw movies, than you will realize that this is just a foreign version of these films. But with that being said, this was a very gritty, grainy and intense movie to watch. The blood was really poured out for this one as well. This is a movie for fanatical horror film freaks. At times though, the violence and the killing was too over the top for what they were trying to do. But it was still a good set up as four young people are trying to get out of a violent Paris and trying to run from the cops and the run right into a family of cannibalistic Nazis. Almost sounds like a cheesy eighties horror movie. But this was far from it. The acting was very top notch especially from our lead Karina Testa. This young woman looked like she really took a beating in this movie as well as her character. A couple of the violent death scenes such as the badn saw and the exploding head were excellent as well as one of the people getting his fingers shot off. That was so realistic looking that I was floored when I watched it. I had to rewind that scene again just to see that and I never, I mean never rewind a movie while I am watching it. That was a first. But this movie was a bit long for what they were trying to do and at times had some moments that were a bit boring, but I would still recommend this to any horror fan.
