Tin Man
2007 Starring Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming, Neal McDonough, Kathleen Robertson, Raoul Trujillo, Richard Dreyfuss Not Rated 265 Minutes
Dorothy Gale, a.k.a. DG, is all grown up and bored. She mopes around, works as a waitress, and goes to school part time. Before she knows it she's back in OZ (a.k.a. Outer Zone) and on the run from the evil sorceress Azkadellia and her storm troopers and clumsy bats. Along the way she falls in with some strange characters including the brainless Glitches, Raw, a cowardly and psychic lion-man hybrid and Wyatt Cain, a cowboy cop from Central City called a "tin man" because of his tin badge.
Rating:7/10 I hate remakes or "reimagined" movies. Really, it is just a bunch of garbage in which Hollywood has no more ideas. There are exceptions to the rule. And that is where the SciFi channel comes in. The one thing that the SciFi channel does right(and the only thing) is the reimagining of movies or television shows. I thought that SciFi did a bang up job with Battlestar Galactica. But when I heard that they were going to try this with the Wizard of Oz, I could only shake my head. Well, why not. Everything else under the sun has been done, so why not The Wizard. But this was very original with some nods to the original film and in the first part, they really brought a fresh take to the story and then went on from there. This was a very interesting story and at times kind of clever. I repeat, kind of. This has more of a darker tone to it and the settings were beautiful. Even the CGI that was used was tolerable. Neal McDonough's performance was great. He really got int othe role and I enjoyed watching him every time he was on screen. Alan Cumming was also decent as Glitch, who for the most part had some pretty good lines and surprised me with his fighting ability which in a way was also comedic. But I was annoyed by Raw played by Raoul Tujillo. not so much by Trujillo's performance, but what they did with the character. For someone with psychic abilities, he sure talked like he was a moron. And Zooey Deschanel. I still can't see why she gets acting gigs. She seemed bored and it looked at times as if she was reading cue cards. Another bland performance by Deschanel. I also really didn't care for the ending. <SPOILER>For since Tin Man had a darker edge to it, the togetherness family angle annoyed me. But I could still live with it. This is a show that I would recommend. Even though this is a long movie and at times it does go a little slow, this was for the most part interesting and entertaining.
