What makes The Mummy a classic horror gem, is the horror icon, Boris Karloff. Karloff is such a great actor that he not only brings the monstrous side of the creature, but also brings the human side as well. The movie is interesting as a horror movie, but also has some depth as a romance movie as well. There was excellent mood and atmosphere shown with this movie, not just by the actors, but also by the music. I really enjoyed listening to the music of Tschaikovsky in this film. The movie is a bit slow at times and you had to pay attention to the dialogue that was spoken, or you could get lost in this. Zita Johann's performance was also pretty good as you could tell that she really threw herself into the role. Another likable sequence in this movie is the scene when Karloff's character is captured for doing some unholy. The set was very cool looking and looked very realistic looking. The one thing I didn't care for was that you hardly got to see The Mummy creature. Most of the time it was Karloff the man and not Karloff the mummy. From what I understood, it took Karloff eight hours to put on the make up and then it was painful at that, so I guess I can understand why there wasn't so many scenes with the mummy. It might be a bit slow, but it is still and interesting watch.
