Rating:8/10 The movie Unforgiven is a western where it is not just black and white. There is a lot of gray area as to who are really the bad guys and who the good guys really are. Clint Eastwood gives a great performance as the lead in this gritty movie. He has the look of someone who has lived his life in the old west. Morgan Freeman as is partner was an excellent choice. Gene Hackman deserved the Oscar he got for this movie. You can see he is trying to do the right thing, but the madness is slowly creep to the surface. Everytime he is on screen, you can cut the tension with a knife. The thing with this movie is that it is always gripping. You can't turn away. Especially in the begining when one of the cowboys is cutting up the whores face. All the characters including the minor characters are pretty well developed and and come across as real people. The climax is very violent with Eastwood killing unarmed and injured men as he is trying to give a completeness to his characters not only in this western but several of the westerns before this as Eastwood stated that he wanted to bury the western genre. And for his characters, he has. This is an unforgettable movie, especially if you are a fan of westerns or a fan of Eastwoods.
