If there was one movie that surprised me by how good it was, I would definitely say Snow Cake would be one of those movies. Normally, these are the kinds of movies I would watch, but this was recommended to me and I think that Alan Rickman is an awesome actor. So I started watching this with kind of low expectations to a point. The first fifteeen minutes I found myself really getting sucked into the story with Alan Rickman and the Vivienne character. It was kept very light hearted until something tragic happens. When the something tragic happens, it is like being punched in the jaw, because it was something that I did not see coming. That is when the story gets a bit interesting. This movie does have its moments of comedy, which should get some chuckles and then there is sorrow as well. Well to an extent there is. The scene of forgiveness was a very powerful scene, but you could see it coming. After the tragedy, this movie becomes way too predictable and it does go a bit long, but my attention was never lost. Why? The acting was incredible in this movie. Alan Rickman, of course does a wonderful job and so does Sigourney Weaver. What Sigourney Weaver did was to take a character with autism, and put you into her world, and eventually start seeing things the way she did. The character was taken very seriously even though there were a couple of comedic elements and that was due in part of the dry wit that Alan Rickman gave in his character. There really was no weak character in this movie, and this is a movie that will surprise you as it did me. Very enjoyable.
